Initially noted for its panoramic view, the village of Champillon later gained a reputation for gastronomy. The Bellevue viewpoint, located on a landscaped terrace complete with picnic tables and an old press house, offers a captivating view of the Marne Valley, vineyards, town of Épernay and further afield. This enviable location is by no means a new attraction. When Napoleon III visited Épernay, he asked to view the most beautiful vineyard landscape and was taken to Champillon.
This panoramic view has captivated other illustrious visitors over the years, including General de Gaulle in April 1963 and the British Queen Mother during a private visit to Champagne in May 1983. Two centuries earlier, one of Louis XV's cavalry regiments, known as the Royal Champagne, stayed at the inn that stood on this site overlooking the hillside. This once modest inn developed over time, becoming a Relais & Châteaux boutique hotel in 2018. The hotel bears the name of the regiment in remembrance of the king's cavalry.
